AT LAST: Manchester United to be FINALLY nearing De Jong signing
It has been a rollercoster, but the signing of Frenkie de Jong could finally be on it's way
Don't look now, but one of the biggest stories of this summer transfer window could be coming to an end in the coming days: that of Frenkie de Jong and Manchester United.
With the Red Devils interested in the player from the moment Erik Ten Hag signed his contract, the negotiation of the deal has been one big rollercoster. First Barcelona said they didn't want to sell, then it became clear they wouldn't have offers for other players and started to listen to offers.
Then De Jong spoke on the deal and didn't seem to be very eager to move, only for rumours that he had cleared his locker at the Barcelona training ground to come up. It has been up an down since it started, but the end of speculation seems near.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the latest offer from Manchester United is around 65 million euros, but would reach the desired 85 million with addons. That means the deal is getting closer to completition, and all that would remain is for the English club agree terms with De Jong.
In that regard, Spanish newspaper AS is reporting that Frenkie de Jong would want an improvement on his 11 million euros yearly wage to move to Manchester United. However, according to the Spanish newspaper the Dutch midfielder is aware that, should he refuse the move, he'll be pushed by Barcelona to lower his contract, so the feeling is that the move will go through once the clubs agree the fee.
