CONFIRMED: Chiellini announces his "next chapter"
The Juve legends decided to move on in his career and his next step is already clear
Giorgio Chiellini has been one of the staples of brilliant Italian defending for almost fifteen years. Heir to the likes of Gaetano Scirea, Claudio Gentile and Fabio Cannavaro, he'll now move on to his next club as he announced on his Twitter the "next chapter" of his career.
Giorgio Chiellini is a Juventus legend, no questions asked
The former Livorno youth product had a breakout season for Fiorentina during the 2004-05 season and was called back to Juventus for the following season. After that, he survived struggles, the Calciopoli scandal, playing in the Serie B and came on the other side as a established Serie A defender, forming a magnificent back three during the Antonio Conte era at la Vecchia Signora with Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli, Juve's own BBC.
With that, and despite Conte's departure in 2014 to become Italy coach, Chiellini and Juventus continued to be a winning combination, winning an incredible nine Scudetto's in a row. Their biggest misses came no doubt in the Champions League, where they lost the 2015 and 2017 finals, to FC Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
Italy's triumph at the Euro 2020 would prove bittersweet for Chiellini
Chillieni also had his struggles with the Azzurra. Despite becoming an undisputed starter since 2010 and reaching the Euro 2012 semifinal, he was part of Italy's dissappointing 2010 and 2014 World Cup campaigns, as well as the failure to qualify for the 2018 edition. His vindication at Euro 2020, captaining Italy to their first piece of silverware since the 2006 World Cup would be bittersweet, as he would come from the bench to see Italy lose to North Macedonia in the Qatar 2022 Qualification Play-Offs and miss on a second consecutive World Cup.
Officially retired from the Italian National Team, and moving on from Juventus, Chiellini joins MLS side Los Angeles FC. "I felt very strongly about this new chapter in my career and I am grateful to LAFC for this opportunity," he said in a statement from the club. "I'm thankful for all my years with Juventus and I'm looking forward to winning many more trophies in Los Angeles".

"I don't think there is a mold like him. I think he's unique", the team's general manager John Thorrington told ESPN. "I can't think of another player who has his track record of being a captain and is a serial winner and all the rest. It's not as though there are a lot of these players. I think that is why it was such a no-brainer for us".
