Erling Haaland earns this ABSOLUTE FORTUNTE... and it's not enough really
The Norwegian's true wages were revealed recently and while the numbers are incredible, his performances are more so
Can a player be the best paid in the league and still be underpaid? You need to ask Pep Guardiola and the rest of the Manchester City hierarchy. Erling Haaland was one of the bargains of the century when he was acquired by Sky Blues for £51 million this summer, and even though his pay ranks among the highest in the world of football... is he underpaid?
The Norwegian has scored 19 goals in his first 12 games in all competitions for City, a record-breaking start to a player's career, but while he was already among the best paid players in the Premier League, on £350,000 a week, it appears that his performance is being rewarded with a contract that would make him one of the highest-paid players in the history of the game.
That's because, according to a Daily Mail report, Haaland also receive "almost guaranteed" bonuses that take his income to £850,000 a week. That's more than £45 million a season. a figure that would make Haaland one of the best paid athletes in the world, when counting professional wages only.
For comparison, those £45 million are nearly twice as much as Cristiano Ronaldo ears across the town at Old Trafford, and more than three times what Chelsea pays Raheem Sterling. In fact, only the PSG trio of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar earn more per season than Haaland. Outside of the world of football, not even LeBron James cashes as much per season as the Norwegian in wages alone.
And yet... is that enough? Erling Haaland has been scoring for fun since joining Manchester City and could very well be the missing link that finally wins the Cityzens their most coveted trophy, the Champions League. With the Norwegian on pace to set a record-breaking season in the league, is the best paid player in the Premier League paid enough? Only time will tell.
