Jamie Vardy, a story of overcoming
At the beginning of his career, Vardy was paid 30 pounds a week
Every football lover knows the English player named Jamie Vardy, the Premier League champion Leicester City's scorer. However, not everyone knows the full story of this player. Currently, he is one of the best strikers in the world, even at 35 years old. But 10 years ago, that is, when he was 25 years old, Vardy had not yet made his professional football debut.
Vardy was born in Sheffield (England) in 1987, into a working-class family. But his family loved football, which encouraged Vardy to play in the lower divisions for Sheffield Wednesday. He played on that team until he was 16 when he was released. That same year, he signed for Stocksbridge Park Steels, an amateur team from England's seventh division. His salary was 120 pounds a month, an insignificant figure considering that he currently earns 750,000 pounds a month. His salary was so low that he had to work as a clerk in a brace factory.
He played for this team until he was 23, when he was hired in exchange for 15,000 pounds by Halifax Town (sixth division). That season, he scored 29 goals in 41 games and earned a promotion. The following year he signed for Fleetwood Town (fifth division) and thanks to 31 goals in 36 games, his team was promoted to League Two (fourth division).
By then, Vardy was already a very famous footballer among many English clubs, including Leicester City, a Championship team (second division). By then, Vardy was already a very famous footballer among many English clubs, including Leicester City, a Championship team (second division). This team paid 1 million pounds for this player, a record amount for an amateur player. Finally, at the age of 25, Vardy made his professional football debut.
His first season with the Foxes was not easy and he only scored 5 goals in 29 games. He received a lot of criticism that discouraged him (he even considered leaving the team), but fortunately, the team's manager managed to motivate him. The following season was different, as he had 16 goals, and 11 assists in 41 games. Not only was he the best player on his team, but he also guided his team to obtain the long-awaited promotion to the Premier League.
But again, his adaptation to the highest category of English football was not easy and he had a bad season again (5 goals in 36 games). Despite that, Leicester avoided relegation. The following season (2015/2016), without a doubt, was the best of his career. Thanks to 24 goals in 36 games, Jamie Vardy became a Premier League champion. Leicester's Premier League is regarded as one of the greatest feats in football history
The rest is known history. Currently, Vardy has 164 goals in 385 games and he is preparing to play his eleventh consecutive season in "the foxes".
