"They cannot sign him": LaLiga president shocks Barça
The LaLiga president was clear that there won't be any exceptions for FC Barcelona when it comes to the financial rules
Despite all the talking Polish striker Robert Lewandowski did in recent weeks, confirming that he will leave Bayern Munich and his desire to play for FC Barcelona, the reality is that the club led by Joan Laporta may not be able to afford the move in this transfer market. Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, was clear in his statement about the possibility of the Pole arriving at FC Barcelona.
"[Laporta] knows our economic control rules and his financial situation perfectly. The rules are to avoid major economic problems in the entities. I don't know if he will sell De Jong, Pedri or Joe Doe", said the president from LaLiga.
"He knows what he has to do, sell assets and find another source of income, that's what he has to do. Barça have had many accumulated losses in recent years, some that could have been avoided, and they have to fill the tank. Just like the Madrid has filled it, Barça has it empty. As things stand today, they cannot sign him", added Tebas.
"Am I optimistic about signing for Barça? It's a big question. I don't like being in this situation. After the Nations League we'll have time to talk about the situation, but I don't see any chance of staying at Bayern anymore." Lewandowski had explained recently.
At the moment, FC Barcelona needs to sell, but in truth the only footballer who they've received offers for is Frenkie De Jong, who has already stated that he doesn't want to leave the club. Bayern Munich don't want to give Lewandowski up for free, they demand at least 35 million euros for the Polish striker's transfer.
