"It's impossible": Juve CEO drops a BOMBSHELL on De Ligt
Maurizio Arrivabene spoke with an Italian newspaper on the Dutchman's decision to force a move away from Juve
The transfer market never stops, there's never a quiet day. That's because whenever one story seems to die out, another takes up it's place. With the likes of Lukaku and Tchouameni already comfortable in their new clubs, now the unrest is coming from Italy, and concretely from Juventus and Matthjis de Ligt.
Matthjis de Ligt pushed for a move out of Juventus after contract negotiations fell through
The Dutch defender set off the alarms as he refused to sign a new contract with La Vecchia Signora, claiming the release clause they intended to add to the contract was prohibitive and would lock him at the club with no chance to leave regardless of his intentions.
So, he took matters into his own hands and asked for a transfer now. With just two years on his contract, Juve would be smarter to sell now and they know it, but they can also push things a little bit, and thats what they've been doing, asking for De Ligt's full 120 million euro release clause.
However, the higher-up's at the club know they will eventually have to sell, and that's what Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene told Italian newspaper Tuttosport. "It's impossible to keep players when they want to leave the club", explained the former Scuderia Ferrari team principal. Despite that, he stressed Juve won't sell if the deal is not good for them: "All the three parties in the negotiations have to be satisfied".
So far, the only real interested for Matthjis de Ligt's services have been Chelsea, who were looking to add a player in exchange for the Dutchman, most likely being Christian Pulisic or Timo Werner who end up being part of the deal.
