SURPRISE: Juve wanted him but Chelsea SWOOPED IN at the LAST MINUTE
The Blues are bound to steal one of Juventus targets for one of the positions they most needed help with
Chelsea seem to be everywhere this transfer market. With new owner Todd Boehly highly active in every negotiation that takes places, there's hardly a name that comes up in the market that the Blues fail to be a potential destination for. Still out on the look for a centreback, it's not surprise then that they join the race for Kalidou Koulibaly... and they seem to be leading.
The Senegalese is one of the best centrebacks in the world, but he's only got one year left on his contract, and bidders are lining up to take him. First, it was Juventus who were really interested in Koulibaly, as potential replacement for Matthjis de Ligt, who's demanded a move. Now, Chelsea seem to have taken over.
With Koulibaly reportedly favouring a move outside of Italy due to his love for Napoli, it's very likely that the London club are using this to edge out the Bianconeri to sign the Senegalese.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, there was a meeting between Koulibaly's agent and Chelsea representatives, while The Athletic's David Ornstein suggests "agreement between the clubs and the Senegal captain is thought to be close", with a fee reported of 40 million euros for Koulibaly.
Kalidou Koulibaly is coming of an African Cup of Nations win with Senegal, the first in their history, while also being a key part of Luciano Spalletti's team. The Senegalese has played 317 matches for Napoli since joining them in 2014, and is one of the fans' favourites.
