MBAPPÉ'S COMEBACK: Benzema not obvious candidate for Ballon d'Or
With just about six months to the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the two Frenchmen carry on with the war of words
The feud between Real Madrid's Karim Benzema and PSG's Kylian Mbappé seems to know no end for now. At one point great friends and admiring each other, the Les Bleus teammates have moved now to sharp statements that endanger the peace of the French National Team, just over six months before the World Cup in Qatar. After Benzema said the eve of the Champions League final wasn't the time "to talk about those little things" regarding the Mbappé transfer saga, now Mbappé has formulated his comeback.
In one of the many interviews that Mbappé gave these days, he was asked who was the greatest candidate to win the Ballon d'Or and his answer could not have been more obvious: "It is difficult because the season is not over and there are several candidates" the Paris Saint Germain player said.
"It is necessary to see what each one did, the rules changed. It is the first different year, the collective titles will count less, and it will be for the most impressive player. It will be difficult to say", Mbappé added to his comment regarding the award that France Football will surely give between September and October of this 2022, unlike the traditional year-end date.
He failed to mantion Benzema or any other candidate, and odd thing for someone who has a National Team teammate as one of the leading candidates to take the award. This is surely not the end of the war of words between the two, and will likely give French National Team boss Didier Deschamps a few headaches.
