Jurgen Klopp discusses NEW SIGNINGS after Konate injury SETBACK
The German boss spoke about their options after pre-season injury to Konate complicates their opening weeks to the Premier League
Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are no strangers to injuries derailing them from their objetives, with injuries to Mohamed Salah and Loris Karius potentially costing them the 2018 Champions League, as well as Virgil Van Dijk 2020-21 woe making it impossible to defend their Premier League crown. However, despite significant injury setbacks for his side, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp stated that nothing has changed in terms of transfers.
The Anfield side, who were edged out of first place by Manchester City by one point the previous season, have only added three senior players ahead of the new season, the most notable being Darwin Nunez, who joined for a sum that could one day set a club record. Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay have also joined the team.
Despite that, many thought they may dive into the market once again due to injuries. After suffering an blow during a preseason friendly against Strasbourg, Ibrahima Konate joined Curtis Jones on the sidelines, dealing Klopp's team a fresh setback in their preparations. The German manager, however, has said they won't be pressured into making any last-minute transfers, instead insisting on on-the-pitch solutions.
"We have too many injuries, that's true, but in this moment nothing has changed", Klopp told The Liverpool Echo ahead of their Premier League debut. "We can't solve a problem we have for four weeks with a transfer. The window is open so we will see but there are no plans".
However, Jurgen Klopp did mention that Ibrahima Konate's injury will affect departing transfers. After spending the last year on loan at Bournemouth, 25 year old centreback Nat Phillips had been rumoured to be leaving, but he is now set to stay as backup for the French defender.
