"I don't think there is a problem": Klopp defended by Liverpool legend after red card
The German manager was sent off for shouting at a linesman but this Liverpool legend doesn't think it should be blown out of proportion
Steven McManaman has boldly defended Jurgen Klopp's antics on the sidelines, stating that Anfield supporters want the German to remain "passionate". The former England international, who spent nine years with the Reds, is still very close to his old team, and he encouraged Klopp show his character.
The German manager entered once again the public debate, as he saw a red card following his protests for a foul no given during Liverpool's clash with Manchester City. The FA has accused the Liverpool manager of inappropriate conduct, and he has been requested to provide a statement to the organisation describing his role in the incident. While the manager has not yet responded to the complaint, McManaman insisted there "isn't really a problem".
"I think the incident himself he knows he was wrong and apologised for it, I want my manager to be passionate and Klopp has been at this club six and a half years now and you can count on one hand when he has overstepped the mark", commented the former Liverpool and Real Madrid player while working as a pundit for streaming service Amazon Prime Video.
McManaman was quick to point out Klopp was the first to admit his mistake, and he thinks things shouldn't be blown out of proportion: "You understand why he reacted like that to a foul but he was wrong, he said he was wrong and we wait the outcome of the charge. I don't think there is a problem at all really. There is a problem with that incident but I don't think there is a problem with his behaviour overall really".
For his own part, Jurgen Klopp tried to highlight the contexts, claiming it was a high tension situation, but admited his wrongdoing: "It was my fault but it was not that it was a boring 0-0 and I stood there and went bonkers. There is no excuse, I don't want an excuse, it happened and it was obvious as everyone saw it. That he gave me a red card is absolutely OK. Send me away, fine".
