Luis Suárez amid reports of INCREDIBLE return to South American football
The Uruguayan star wants to remain in Europe to arrive to the World Cup in top shape, but there's an offer from South America that is gathering steam
Continuing to play in Europe is a tempting proposition for any footballer and even more so for one who wants to reach the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. That is the main objective of Luis Suárez, to find a club in European football, play in the Champions League and arrive to Qatar in form. However, South American journalists are linking him with a move to Argentinian side River Plate, and their offer could be unbeatable.
Luis Suárez would arrive at River Plate to find an undisputed spot at the starting 11 after the departure of Julián Álvarez, the great star of Marcelo Gallardo's team. In addition, El Pistolero would find in River Plate a team at the peak of South American football, currently competing in the Argentine League, the Conmebol Libertadores and the Argentine Cup.
He would also find Marcelo Gallardo, one of the most respected coaches not only in the continent but the world, who is known for his European-style coaching and could get him in the form of his life.
"[Suárez] is going through a recovery period due to a cleaning on his knee, so even if we had him today he could not play, so our wait is in accordance with the times of his evolution. He has shown good disposition and enthusiasm, but it will be a decision his own when he is fit", explained Marcelo Gallardo at a press conference.
The contract offered by River Plate would be for six months, with the possibility of extending it for six more and a final figure that would be around 2.5 million dollars. Suárez's main objective is to reach Qatar 2022 in form; rumour is everything will depend on River Plate managing to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Conmebol Libertadores.
Next Wednesday, River will face Vélez Sarsfield in the first leg of the Libertadores round of 16 and then define the series at the Monumental. If they go through and if a top-level offer from Europe does not arrive, Suárez would accept to play in River. "Against Vélez it will be a close game and the series will be tough. They are two teams that compete in local football, that we know each other a little better and there is an idea of ours to have a great game", Gallardo explained. Luis Suárez is still on vacation, but the expectations from River Plate fans is at a maximum.
