NO DE JONG, NO PROBLEM: Ten Hag has his ALTERNATIVE ready to join
The Dutch manager is working in alternatives after the De Jong deal gets stuck, and he's got one ready to go
Sometimes you have to let go of your objectives and plot a more realistic course, as Manchester United are having to do. With their deal for dream target Frenkie de Jong all but in tatters, the Red Devils are re-adjusting and they have already found their next alternative to the Dutch playmaker: Adrien Rabiot.
After being humiliated 2-1 by Brighton in their opening Premier League match, Manchester United has allegedly reached an initial agreement with Juventus to acquire the services of the former PSG man. Ten Hag chose to open the game with Scott McTominay and Fred in midfield, but both players struggled and were taken off in a humiliating loss that highlighted the need for fresh players.
The 27-year-old Rabiot is in the final year of his Juventus contract, and with few options in the horizon, he could prove considerably cheaper than the Dutchman. According to local newspaper Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are going through the finer points with the player's agent, his mother Veronique, after coming to an agreement with the Italian club regarding the fee.
Far from the only option, Manchester United are also chasing Napoli's Fabian Ruiz, who Ten Hag reportedly considers a good option to De Jong. However, French newspaper L'Equipe has the Spaniard heavily linked with PSG, which could make him very costly.
While the door isn't complety shut on Ruiz or De Jong, Manchester United has started to look at other options, with the deadline of September 1 coming fast their way, and with a seriously weakened midfield as a result of the losses of Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, and Nemanja Matic.
