HISTORIC: Casemiro leaves Real Madrid and signs with Manchester United
The five time Champions League winner will be moving to Manchester United after eight years with Real Madrid
In a matter of days and despite their difficult start to the season, Manchester United sealed one of the signings of the year: Casemiro is a Red Devil. The English club paid 60 million euros plus another 10 million in addons to acquire the services of one of the biggest Real Madrid icons in recent times.
Casemiro will sign a four-year contract, with the option to extend it to a fifth season, and will earn a figure close to 15 million euros per year. The Brazilian spent a handful of minutes in the last practice of Carlo Ancelotti's team, and then, already in the locker room, he said goodbye to his teammates and the Italian's coaching staff.
In the next few hours, Casemiro will travel to England for a medical check-up and sign his contract, while Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is already thinking of him as a possible starter for the classic against Liverpool, since the Brazilian is on playing rhythm and has just finished a full preseason with Real Madrid.
The one in charge of announcing the deal was Carlo Ancelotti himself, who at a press conference confessed: "I have spoken with him. He wants to have a new challenge. The club understands that, we have to respect that wish. The dressing room accepts his decision, because the whole club has great respect for him. You have to understand it, although we are sad. I have not tried to convince Casemiro. He has helped us a lot, I have talked a lot about it. There is no way to go back if you listen to his wishes. If everything goes well, we have to wish him the best and look at what we have".
In addition, Ancelotti warned: "We have a replacement. Aurelien Tchouameni has been signed for this position. And he is one of the best. Kroos can also play in that position. We won 22 games in a row with him there in my first stint. Players with different characteristics to those of Casemiro can play there. We will not sign anyone".
Casemiro leaves Real Madrid with five Champions Leagues, three LaLiga titles, three Club World Cups and three European Super Cups among his most outstanding titles. The decision to let Casemiro go is considered a mistake by Real Madrid fans, who on social networks have asked ad nauseam for the Brazilian to be retained. Although the figure is impressive, Real Madrid did nothing to retain the Brazilian and left everything in the hands of the player, who earned the right to decide.
