ASTONISHING:Ten Hag's budget for January if Ronaldo leaves
The Dutch manager is set to receive further financial support in the winter window, and it even more so if the Portuguese star gets his wish
Manchester United is sparing no expense and they could give Erik ten Hag a lot more to spend if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the club. After forking out over £215 million to get the Dutch coach the players he needs to take the Red Devils back to the top of the Premier League, figures are already coming out of their potential spending come January time; but it could be even more of the Portuguese star moves out.
It has been rumoured that at least £70 million will be given to Erik ten Hag when the January transfer window comes, to reinforce his team further after the signings of Antony from Ajax for £85 million, Casemiro from Real Madrid for £64 million and Lisandro Martinez from Ajax for £52 million, among others.
However, that figure could be a lot higher if Cristiano Ronaldo secures his objective of leaving Old Trafford to play Champions League football. The Portuguese star was keen to leave in the summer, but the Red Devils blocked his move. However, the times they're changing; recent results have shown that Ten Hag's team works best without Ronaldo on the starting lineup, and without Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea to block the whims of Todd Boehly, perhaps that door could be open once again.
But, just how much extra cash would Ronaldo's departure secure Manchester United? Even considering he leaves Old Trafford on a free or for a negligible transfer fee, getting his £450,000-a-week wages off the books would mean a staggering £23 million would become available.
In turn, if a fee matching the Portuguese current valuation (as per Transfermarkt) is received, that would take the figure to some £41 million, taking Erik ten Hag's overall transfer budget for January to £111 million. With the World Cup already over by then and the rest of the oversaturated 2022-23 fixtures coming up, it could be worth it considering if Manchester United isn't best served by letting Cristiano Ronaldo walk away.
