Manchester United still hold ONE LAST CARD to sign their dream target
The Red Devils just got some excellent bit of news from a rival in the race to sign one of their targets
Just days after sealing the deal for Casemiro, Manchester United could be getting another big bit of news regarding the transfer market, and one of their oldest targets: Frenkie de Jong. The Red Devils seem to have received an unexpected advantage in their efforts to close a last-minute deal for the Dutchman.
All summer long, Erik ten Hag has been trying to sign the Barça star, but the former Ajax manager hasn't been able to convince his former midfield mastermind to join him at Old Trafford, with the De Jong looking far more likely to either stay at Barcelona or join Chelsea.
However, after the Blues' humiliating 3-0 loss to Leeds United over the weekend, manager Thomas Tuchel was questioned about the chances of returning to the transfer market to buy a midfielder. "Another midfielder? We have Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, we have Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher, and Mateo Kovacic", replied the German manager, "They're injured [Kante and Kovacic], yes, it's a problem. But they will come back. They've not disappeared".
Since then, it has come to light that Barcelona intends to make one final push to sell De Jong. According to a recent report from Spanish newspaper Sport, the Catalan giants have set a new meeting with De Jong's representatives Ali Dursun and Hasan Centikaya later this week. As per Dutch newspaper Telegraaf, Manchester United intends to send a delegation to Spain for one last go-round at negotiating a deal for De Jong.
Barcelona is struggling to find the money necessary to register new signing Jules Kounde with La Liga, and if a solution isn't found quickly, they risk losing the player. With Chelsea now apparently out of the bidding, it could be that Manchester United could finally seal the deal for Frenkie de Jong, after so many months of negotiations.
