A KEY man for midfield: The INCREDIBLE name on Ten Hag's shopping list
The Manchester United boss wants to make big changes to his squad, and he's looking for a big name to come along
Manchester United know they won't get Frenkie de Jong by now. The story has been the transfer saga of the summer, but it has been all for nothing, with the Dutchman now far more likely to stay or move to Chelsea. Thus, they need an alternative and with their move for Adrien Rabiot hitting complications due to wage demands, another option has come up: Real Madrid's Casemiro.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Red Devils could now look to Casemiro, the stalwart of los Blancos' midfield, to address their own issues at the centre of the park.
Former Manchester United stars have harshly criticised the current duo of Scott McTominay and Fred for underwhelming perfomances, despite early promise show in the their pre-season friendlies, and the words that Red Devils' head coach Erik ten Hag spoke about them.
Although certain Manchester United directors are in Madrid, no official bid has been made for the player, and it won't be an easy transfer. Casemiro is in very regard at Real Madrid and he's not someone they'd look to part ways with; he also enjoys a great relationship with the Merengue manager Carlo Ancelotti. While Real Madrid spent nearly 100 million euros on potential replacement Aurélien Tchouameni this summer, the young French star is seen more as a long-term substitute for the Brazilian than an immediate one.
However, as reported by Marca, the European champions are not entirely closed down to the deal and some surprises could come in the final days of the summer transfer market. "For me it is an honor to play alongside Modric and Kroos. What they have done for football is very big. I do not want to say that I would sacrifice myself for them, because people would not understand it well; we play our game, and if they they wouldn't help me with defensive tasks, I couldn't do it with offense. The pitch is too big just for Casemiro. People know what Real Madrid is" the Brazilian recently commented.
Casemiro has been a key part of Real Madrid's squad in five Champions League victories and three LaLiga championships. He arrived in 2013 from Sao Paulo for a mere 6 million euros, and has now played over 300 matches for los Blancos.
