CRAZY: They offered JUVENTUS these guys for De Ligt and they said NO
Two Premier League clubs are after the former Ajax captain, but Juventus isn't going to make it easy for them
Whenever a player hands in a transfer request, all interested clubs scramble to put together an offer. It's a rare opportunity to close a deal on the cheap before the player gets cold feet, and Sporting Directors across the world know. Such seems to be the case with Juventus's Matthijs de Ligt, and Chelsea are indeed scrambling to put an offer together.
De Ligt, who recently failed to renew his contract with La Vecchia Signora, has reportedly asked for a transfer this summer, and two clubs are chasing the former Ajax captain the hardest: Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Red Devils are told to have the upper hand because of the relationship between De Ligt and their new manager, Erik Ten Hag. However, their struggles to sign Frenkie de Jong may have shown that card not to be as strong as the Old Trafford club hoped it to be, and Chelsea want De Ligt just as much.
Now, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, the Blues are scrambling to put before Juventus an offer worth considering for the Dutchman. As reported, Chelsea offered £34 million (around 40 million euros) for the player, plus the signing of either Christian Pulisic or Timo Werner.
However, Juventus remain uninterested so far, rejecting the offer. While Juve are looking for strikers, it is said that manager Massimiliano Allegri isn't keen on either of the Chelsea forwards. Furthermore, Juventus consider the total value of the package to be below the 100 million euros price tag that they have put on Matthijs de Ligt. The 22 year old centreback, who played 42 matches for the Bianconeri last season, will remain one of their players, for now.
