C'EST FINI: Pochettino to officially leave PSG
The Argentine manager's fate will be announced very soon, although there will be no surprises
Despite his best intentions and hopes, Mauricio Pochettino's fate seemed sealed from weeks before, when Real Madrid exposed PSG's lack of European pedigree and turned around a series that seemed to be in the hands of the Parisian club.
Now, according to French newspaper Le Parisien, what everybody knew will become official: Pochettino will no longer be the manager of Paris Saint Germain. As reported by the newspaper, an agreement has been reached between the club and the manager for his departure, which should be announced by the club very soon.
With only a few details remaining to be settled, according to Le Parisien the announcement should be done on the 15th or 16th of June, and the formalization of Pochettino's sacking will occur thereafter.
Mauricio Pochettino, who played himself for PSG between 2001 and 2003, arrived as manager in 2020, following a very successful spell at Tottenham Hotspur, where he turned a middle table side into an outside contender to the league, and reached an UEFA Champions League final.
However, his stint at the helm of his former club proved dissappointing, as he never managed to extract the most out of one of the most expensive squads in the world. Two failed Champions League bids pile on top of a Ligue 1 second place (a shame for any PSG manager) and a shocking elimination from the Coupe de France at the hands of OGC Nice. Now, Pochettino's future is uncertain, although some rumour he could end up at Athletic Bilbao, depending who wins the Spanish club's president election.
