Mbappé's shopping list: The players he was promised would join PSG
The French striker wasn't only asking for the selling of Neymar, but he also wanted these players to join him
Details of the feud between Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint Germain continue to appear. The story that the French star is set on a move away from the Parisian side just burst on this week, but now we know so much more than we did before, and information just comes up. A lot of weight has been attributed to the promises the PSG hierarchy made and broke, but what were they?
It's been less than five months since Mbappe and PSG announced that the 23 year old striker was remaining with the Paris side, and things are already falling apart. While many have hypothesized that one of the main broken promises that the board made and then forgot about has to do with the departure of Brazilian star Neymar Jr. However, now it has been reported by journalist Romain Molina that there were also a number of signings that Mbappe wanted PSG to make to reach their goals.
The first on the World Cup-winner's list would have been none other than Robert Lewandowski. The 34 year old Polish striker was set on a move away from Bayern Munich, and while his first option always seemed to be Barcelona, where he eventually joined. However, it looks as though Mbappé was keen on teaming up with him at PSG, a signing that makes sense in the context of his current discontent with playing centre forward, and was promised as much.
Next up was Milan Škriniar. The centreback was a big target for the Parisians, but they were unable to seal the move, with Inter Milan asking upwards of 70 million euros for the Slovakian's services. While PSG aren't exactly short on elite centrebacks, reinforcements were required and this is another player who they failed to secure.
Last but not least and perhaps even most important, Bernardo Silva. Of course, Mbappe and the Portuguese creative midfielder have history, with both coming into the spotlight around the same time, as part of the AS Monaco team that took the world by surprise and stormed to the 2017 Champions League semifinals, leaving the likes of Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund behind. Another player that looked to be on the move, Silva ended up staying with the Citizens, although he was heavily linked with Barcelona.
In any case, the common denominator between all players is their failure to join PSG, and another broken promise which adds to the list and undoubtedly contributed to the collapse of the relationship between Kylian Mbappe and the club, one that's been called "impossible to repair".
