The French striker just can't get away from drama this season, with now government officials rubbing their hands over how much he's set to pay in taxes
Kylian Mbappe is once again in the eye of the storm. In this case it has nothing to do with his clashes with his teammates or the Paris Saint Germain hierarchy, but rather because of his wages. With recent reports that the French striker could be cashing in over 600 million euros during the extension of his current contract, drama has ensued, but there is one party that keeps rubbing their hands: the French government.

French authorities declared that they are happy with the taxes that the striker pays in his home nation despite the issues surrounding Mbappé's exorbitant wages, which were refuted by PSG after a report by French media. "It is better that he does it in France than in another country" said Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire, questioned about the matter.
According to information from French newspaper Le Parisien, which PSG promptly refuted, Mbappé, who extended his contract with the Parisian club last May until 2025, will earn 630 million euros gross, the biggest contract in sports history, surpassing the previous record, which stood at the 555 million that Lionel Messi was paid by Barcelona.
Another member of Emmanuel Macron's governament, the Minister of Finance Gabriel Attal, recalled that these tributes would not be enjoyed by the French State if Mbappé "had gone to play for Real Madrid", as was about to happen. "That amount will serve to finance our public services", Attal said.

But, how much does the French government take from Kylian Mbappé's wages? Well, if reported wage numbers are to be believed, the French striker should be taxed at 49% because of how big his earnings are. As a result, the French State could be taking over 90 million euros per year, leaving the player with "only" 95 million euros annually on average.
