Messi sets of the ALARMS as he's likely to miss out this KEY game
The Argentine is being very careful with his body with the World Cup just weeks from now, and he looks set to miss one of PSG's most important games
The condition of Lionel Messi continues to be an unknown for Paris Saint Germain. The Argentine forward has been on flying form this season, a stark contrast with his first at the Parisian club, but now a calf injury is keeping him on the sidelines. With the World Cup just weeks away now, Messi won't push himself and risk more damage, but when will he return?
Due to a muscle contracture on the calf, the Argentine was taken out for PSG Tuesday night's Champions League match against Benfica, which ended in a 1-1 draw. While the news are generally good for him, Messi is still having issues with his calf and he's in doubt for PSG's clash with Olympique Marseille.
The former Barça player is taking care of himself and is getting better and better. The coaching staff hopes to be able to play him on Sunday during the Classique, one of Ligue 1's most important matches. The final decision will be made on Saturday, during the last training session behind closed doors.
"Leo felt discomfort in the calf during the first of the two matches against Benfica. We thought, and he too thought he could participate in Tuesday's match. Howener, he stayed out in the end", explained Christophe Galtier. "There was very little delay, six days, between the two games and it's a calf. It's going much better, he's very confident but he still has this unpleasant feeling that in a game of this importance, he preferred to abstain", added the PSG manager.
Lionel Messi was the first of a list of worries for the Argentine National Team as the Qatar 2022 World Cup draws closer. In the last few weeks, Paulo Dybala, Joaquín Correa and Angel di María have joined the Rosario-born forward with last minute injuries, and while most are likely to make a return in time, it is surely a cause of concern for Lionel Scaloni.
