"ZERO CONTACTS": Monchi drops a BOMB on the deal for one of his best
One of Sevilla's finest has been on the sights of many top clubs, but according to Monchi there's yet to be contact
He was said to be the defender that everybody wanted. He had everything agreed with Chelsea. He had everything agreed with Barcelona. Sevilla was eyeing a replacement. But apparently, none of that was the case. At least, that's what Monchi has said about one of this best players: Jules Koundé.
The French centreback had reportedly everything ready to move to either Chelsea or Barça for the next season, but Sevilla's Sporting Director Monchi has spoken and apparently negotiations weren't as far along the road as previously reported. "I would have to be a fortune teller to know what is going to happen", told the former player to Spanish radio Onda Cero.
"Xavi has good taste wanting Araujo and Koundé as central defenders, they're not a bad pairing. But so far there are zero contacts with Barcelona", explained Monchi, letting it be known Koundé's future is a Sevilla for now.
Regarding the interest for the Frenchman from Chelsea, the Sevilla Sporting Director was once again fairly dismissive: "I know that Chelsea have to find two centre-backs, but the interest in Koundé comes from England and other countries. Jules has established himself with France and will play the World Cup. It is logical that there is interest in him and there is".
With this, Monchi throws some dirt over the stories that Jules Koundé had everything agreed with the Blues only for Barcelona to swoop over and hijack the deal. It remains to be seen whether Monchi, a skilled negotiatior, is playing hide and seek with these answers, or if he's sending a message to any potential suitors, but it seems for now, Sevilla are holding tight.
