"Neymar was never leaving": PSG director insists Mbappé list was FAKE NEWS
Luis Campos, the sporting director for the Parisian outfit, was clear in his denounce of last summer's rumours about the Brazilian
Neymar was set to leave Paris Saint Germain, the rumours were everywhere. Right after Kylian Mbappé chose to renew his contract with the Parisian club, reports that he was given a seat at the directors table and that he was using it to oust the Brazilian were everywhere and clubs lined up to take on the former Santos man. However, Neymar stayed at PSG and now Luis Campos is confirming that it was all fiction.
The sporting director at PSG was interviewed recently and he took questions on several matters. Key among those was the issue of Neymar, who was linked with a move away from the Parisian outfit all summer long. Yet, Campos answer was short and firm: that was never the case.
"Neymar was never close to leaving PSG", insisted the Portuguese director when questioned on the matter, "Rumours on Neymar this summer were completely fake - also, saying that [Kylian] Mbappé wanted Ney to be sold is another big fake news". Campos was adamant that the rumours of the French striker, who became the world's best paid player as per his new contract with PSG, never used his newly gained influence to push his teammate out.
The Brazilian was rumoured to be at the top of a 14 people blacklist that Mbappe would have given the PSG directors, listing the individuals he wanted gone from the club. While Neymar eventually stayed in Paris, many others supposedly in the list, like head coach Mauricio Pochettino, did depart last summer.
However, the sporting director gave no creedance to the rumours: "Neymar is 100% part of our project", he insisted. To be fair with Kylian Mbappé and Luis Campos, the idea that the Brazlian was going to be part of the new era at PSG was always their version of the events, with new head coach Christophe Galtier repeatedly insisting that he wanted to keep the Brazilian and was planning were to deploy him in his tactical plans.
