Dembele meets with Barcelona to NO AVAIL and will have to make a decision
The French star keeps asking for a better deal as he looks to stay at Barcelona, but the club won't budge
They said when there's a will there's a way, but it's looking like for Ousmane Dembele and Barcelona there's neither. The Frenchman is on an expiring deal that will take him away from the Catalan club, but can they stay together?
According to the latest reports, such is the will of the player and that of the club. Just days ago, reports came from Spain saying Dembele had met with Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández to beg him to intercede with the Blaugrana's president Joan Laporta and negotiate for a better deal, to no avail.
Despite that, it's clear that Xavi wants the player to stay in Barcelona, and that Dembele is keen on remaining at the Spanish club, but the mathematics of the deal just don't seem to work. Dembele wants a better offer to stay, and Barcelona can't offer more than they already have.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Dembele's agent met with the Barcelona board, but no new offer has been made. Instead, like Xavi pointed out, Dembele will have to make a decision regarding the offer he already has. As reported by Romano, Barça will look into FFP rules to analyze an improved deal, but chances are slim.
Ousmane Dembele will have to make his decision later this week, with the final hours remaining on the clock. Should he chose not to extend his deal via the current offer, the Frenchman will bid goodbye to Barcelona, the club he joined in 2017, and for which he scored 32 goals and 34 assists in 139 matches.
