"HELP ME": Dembele with last ditch attempt to save Barcelona career
The Barcelona star could be out of club very soon, prompting another change in his situation
In life, as in the football pitch, things can change without one ever expecting it. Such has been the case for Ousmane Dembele and his relationship with his club, FC Barcelona. First, the club's president Joan Laporta had offered him up openly to anyone willing to buy, only to then do a 180 and offer him a new contract. Then Dembele rejected the contract, with better offers on the table and Barça resigned to losing the player for free. Now...well, things have changed again.
It looked like Ousmane Dembele was soon to be on the move, but he could be simply moving out with nowhere to go
That's because according to Spanish newspaper AS, the French forward has plead for help from his manager Xavi Hernández. According to reports, the other offers Dembele was pondering (mainly those of Chelsea and PSG) have dropped, meaning in just a few days the Frenchman could be a free agent.
With that in mind, Dembele would have allegedly approached Xavi Hernández, pleading for his help to convince Barcelona president Joan Laporta to offer him better terms to remain at the club. Xavi's answer, however, was definite: "Ousmane, you have had an offer from the club since December. Either you accept that offer or there is nothing to do".
As Xavi knows all too well, Barcelona is struggling financially, and that means they can't make an improved offer to Dembele. This means he could either swallow his pride and take the Barcelona offer, or try his luck after June as a completely unattached player. There is, however, an added caveat. The relationship between the player's agent and the club is terrible, meaning there's every chance that said offer is no longer on the table, which would be a case of too little, too late for Dembele, with Barcelona eager to clear wage expenditures.
Xavi has been clear: take the deal or pack your bags
Ousmane Dembele joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for the astonishing amount of 140 million euros. In his troubled time at the Catalan giants, he has managed 32 goals and 34 assists in 139 matches in the Blaugrana shirt.
