For the longest of times, it was unclear were Paulo Dybala's career would continue. Inter was the main candidate to take the Argentine, but the negotiations stalled, the parties lost interest and nothing happened. Real Madrid was also in the mix, but a proper offer, at least according to reports, never came. Finally, it became a sprint race between Napoli and Roma, and it has been the Giallorossi that have won, as Paulo Dybala is officially an AS Roma player.

The Argentine forward, 28 years old, has been officially presented as a new player for the red half of the Italian capital, after very quick negotiations took place. Dybala will sign a three year deal until 2025, taking 6 million euros home every year. He'll wear the shirt number 21, after Nemanja Matic, another of AS Roma's signings this summer, moved to number 8.

After the long drawn negotiations with Inter, it seems Dybala was charmed by the decisiveness with which the Giallorossi came after him. "The speed and determination with which Roma have shown how much they love me have made the difference," said the player for the official club site.

On the other hand, many in the Italian press have made the case that  AS Roma head coach José Mourinho was one of the key reasons the Argentine decided on the move, being convinced by the project the Portuguese put in front of him. "I'm joining a team that is on the rise, a club that continues to lay solid foundations for the future, and a coach, José Mourinho, with whom it will be a privilege to work", Dybala commented on the matter.

For AS Roma, it's as big a coup as they've ever had, with many remembering the days when the Giallorossi made the landmark signing of Gabriel Batistuta from Fiorentina in 2000, which catapulted them to the 2001 Serie A title. "Paulo is a world-renowned player who has won big trophies and has been acclaimed around the world; he will bring that class to Roma and I am sure that, with him in the squad, we will be even stronger and more competitive", explained Tiago Pinto, sporting director for AS Roma.
