Marcelo Bielsa linked to INCREDIBLE return to South America after 10 years
The Argentine manager could be coming back from Europe to manage one of the Conmebol National Teams
After narrowly missing on qualyfication to the 2022 World Cup and bidding farewell to manager Ricardo Gareca, the Peruvian Football Federation are going through several names to replace the Argentine coach. Jorge Sampaoli, Hernan Crespo were some of those who were on the list, however, the top priority on the list is Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine has been free since leaving Leeds United, and after his failed bid to return to Athletic Bilbao, he's is Peru's main objective.

After many twists and turns, Gareca left his position as manager of the Peruvian National Team. The Argentine had due to clear differences with the Peruvian Football Federation. "The players were all vital, they always had great respect and professionalism with us. who accompanied us throughout the process. I am grateful to the Peruvian player, we still have faith in them intact", said a clearly striken Gareca.
"Peru will forever be permanent reason to visit. I've made many friends. You arrive and you don't know how it will go. For us, it is a great responsibility. Having the challenge of four more years was a great responsibility. Although we had worked for a year and a bit at Universitario, being in charge of a country you never know how you things are going to work or how you are going to be treated. They made us feel at home", confessed the Argentine manager.
According to some sources, Bielsa's requirements to take charge of the Peruvian team would be to also take control of the U20 team, a total commitment to the long-term project and absolute confidence in his figure. In addition, Bielsa would also require 20 top level players to be able to work and coaches in the youth teams who believe in his game philosophy.
Despite all that, for Peru the main obstacle is the finances. Bielsa had a £8 million contract at Leeds United, and Gareca left precisely because they could not pay the amount he asked for to carry on his work, despite a 40% reduction. It is worth remembering that Marcelo Bielsa worked as Chilean National Team manager between 2007 and 2011, achieving qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
