Porto set to PAY A FORTUNE for a player they call the NEW NEYMAR
The Portuguese giants, like Benfica, are a bit of bridge between South America and Europe, and they've found their next great project
Two of the giants of Portuguese football, Porto and Benfica, have gained a reputation as bridge clubs between the biggest clubs in South America and those of Europe. Now, the club that won the Champions League under José Mourinho in 2004 is looking to add another of those South American pearls, Palmeiras' Gabriel Veron.
Names like Ángel Di María, Ederson and David Luiz have jumped from their local clubs to top clubs in Europe via As Águias, while the likes of Eder Militao, Radamel Falcao and Nicolás Otamendi have done so passing through Os Dragões. The 19 year old forward looking to follow their path is often called the "new Neymar", and can play all across the attack, both as a natural winger on favoured right foot, inverted on the left or as a striker.
Winner of two Copa Libertadores with Palmeiras, Veron is known for his killer dribble, his eye for a pass and his long shots, although he's also a bit of a liability on the defensive side. He's played 12 matches for his club this season, scoring a goal and providing three assists.
It's not a move without a risk as Veron was recently fined by Palmeiras. Photos of him partying late into the night and drinking during while he should be resting, for which the Brazilian club gave him a 40% wage reduction.
Regardless, Porto are reported to pay 10 million euros for Gabriel Veron, who will soon travel to Portugal to complete his medical examinations and sign the contract, which ties him to the Dragões until 2027.
