Galtier is FURIOUS: PSG failed to find a new club for a player he doesn't want
The French manager wanted a shorter squad, but the Parisian club has failed to sell some of their unwanted players
"In any case, we cannot have such a large squad. We have to reduce it because if there are unhappy players, that negatively affects the group. They are players who want to win and be successful. I have not spoken to them yet, but it is a huge privilege to be able to manage a world-class team. We have to have a common project. Whoever is not willing to be part will have to leave", explained Christophe Galtier when taking over at Paris Saint Germain, and within that objective of reducing the squad, selling Mauro Icardi was a big goal.
The Argentine will not be taken into account by Galtier and he himself recently confessed at a press conference: "I explained to him that the best thing is to find a club". There was a sporting reason, as Icardi will almost certainly never play, and an economic one, because the former Inter man earns 12 million euros per year.
Selling him was a clear goal but PSG couldn't find a taker and Galtier is angry. "The person in charge of sports management, the Portuguese Luis Campos, and the coach, Christophe Galtier, are quite unhappy with the result of the work of the Portuguese Antero Henrique, former sports director and in charge of sales", revealed local newspaper Le Parisien.
Icardi has a contract with PSG until 2024 but the club's idea is to sell him for 25 million euros. He had been linked with Newcastle United, Juventus and even FC Barcelona, but the offer never came. The most concrete deal looked set to come from Galatasaray but it has not yet been completed.
Christophe Galtier's anger also arises because PSG could not sign Milan Skriniar, centreback of Inter Milan, for whom an offer of 60 million euros was made, but the Italian club demanded 80 million euros. For now, Icardi is still at Paris Saint Germain.
