SHOCKING: FIFA suspended him for 3 months and he'll miss the World Cup
He's one of his countries biggest stars, but he could miss the World Cup due to a suspension
Senegal could be left without one of its stars for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The player in question has been served an unusual sanction and could be suspended for three months. We are talking about Keita Balde, the attacker of the Russian team Spartak Moscow who will have to say goodbye to the World Cup if everything goes as expected.
Balde has been notified by FIFA of a sanction related to an anti-doping control, although it must be clarified that he didn't use prohibited substances. The player was sanctioned by the Italian Anti-Doping Agency after spending last season at Cagliari, and what happened is that the footballer apparently broke the testing protocol.
While this was not a FIFA test, "any doping sanction imposed by another national or international association, or an anti-doping agency, is automatically accepted by FIFA and must be recognized by all confederations and associations." In other words, the ban applies to any tournament, including the World Cup that will be played between November 20 and December 18.
However, everything is in the air for now. On the one hand, because the sanction will last until December 5 and on the other because Balde can start training 22 days before that date. If the Senegal National Team decides to take Balde to Qatar 2022 anyways, they could only use him if they advance to the quarterfinals, which will take place between December 9 and 10, and beyond.
Keita Balde was born in Girona, Spain, of Senegalese parents, hence he plays for Senegal. He was trained at Barcelona, where he never made his debut. He did that at Lazio in Italy, in 2013. He played there until 2017, before moving on to Inter Milan. He also played for Monaco twice, for Sampdoria, Cagliari and currently Spartak Moscow.
