Just 100 DAYS from the World Cup, this team is WITHOUT A COACH
One of the 32 countries is without a coach just months away from the competition
The 2022 Qatar World Cup is getting closer, so the you can imagine the shock in the Moroccan National Team, because just 100 days before the start of the tournament, they are left without a coach. Vahid Halilhodzic has terminated his contract by mutual agreement with the Moroccan National Team and turned everything upside down.
Through a statement, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation announced this Thursday that Vahid Halilhodzic is leaving the position of head coach. The parties decided to terminate the contract by mutual agreement despite the start of the 2022 Qatar World Cup in November.
"Due to a divergence in views between the FRMF and the coach regarding the proper preparation of the Atlas Lions for the final phase of the Qatar World Cup 2022, the two parties have agreed to part ways amicably", the statement said.
Vahid Halilhodzic took over the Moroccan National Team in August 2019, and since then, he has directed 30 games and achieved remarkable statistics: he won 21 games, drew eight and only lost one. Throughout that good run, he qualified for the World Cup: a 1-1 draw and a 4-1 victory over DR Congo in the last round of Qualifying.
One of the reasons why Halilhodzic leaves Morocco is the questioning of group management that he had in his stint, in fact, one of the star of the selected team, Hakim Ziyech, decided to resign from the team due to the relationship with the coach, something that now could change again.
In the coming weeks, Morocco will have to announce a new team and it is being evaluated that there will be some friendlies so that they can get to know the squad and try to get to Qatar as well as possible. Morocco's group in Qatar 2022 is with Canada, Belgium and Croatia.
