He won FIVE CHAMPIONS LEAGUES and now he's LEAVING Real Madrid
One of the most laureate players in the club's history is leaving, although he may be happy about it
Every signing is a hopeful moment. For the player, of their next step in their career; for the club, of the achievements they'll reach; for the fans, performances they'll see. But then things don't always workout, and this could be the case for Isco and Real Madrid.
The talented Spaniard arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu aged 21 years old from Malaga, having pretty much single handedly converted the humble Andalusian side into Champions League semifinalist under Manuel Pellegrini. Real Madrid paid 30 million euros (quite a fee at the time) for someone who was one of the best young Spanish stars.
However, things didn't work out for Isco in Real Madrid; not completely. There was, of course, no shortage of silverware. Five Champions Leagues, four Club World Cups, three LaLigas and a Copa del Rey, among others. But the Valencia youth product was never able to establish himself as a starter, much less a leading figure, of those side. In an out of the rotation depending on the coach at the time, he never quite developed into what Real Madrid thought they were buying.
Now, Sevilla has officially announced that Isco has signed a two-year contract with them. The 30-year-old passed his physical on Monday and signed a contract that will last until 2024. He had declined offers from other European teams because staying in Spain was his top interest.
The now former Real Madrid player has also contributed to the agreement by lowering his pay to join the Andalusian side. According to Spanish newspaper AS, his wages at the Sánchez Pizjuán will be five times lower than what he made at Real Madrid.
It will be a new stage in Isco's career, who despite having been a top name in the game for so long is still only 30 years old. It's another hopeful moment, a new start, as with every signing.
