Real Madrid sent him on loan but he hated it: "I lost two years at Dortmund"
He was supposed to be the partner to Vinicius and Rodrygo, but instead he finds himself rebuilding confidence after two hard years in Germany
At Real Madrid they thought that by signing him they would build a deadly trident with Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes, both of them today established in the Merengue first team. However, after two and a half years things aren't looking well for Reinier Jesus, and he knows that he lost a lot of that time. So much so that he himself confessed: "I spent two years at Borussia that were lost and will not return". The 20-year-old Brazilian was loaned by Real Madrid to the German club, but the idea did not work out.
Things didn't work out for Reinier at Borussia Dortmund
Signed in February 2020 from Flamengo, Reinier barely played a couple of games in the white shirt until the pandemic broke out. By August, the club had loaned him to Borussia Dortmund for two years with the idea that he would gain experience. But he hardly played: "I just wanted to get out of there. It was two years lost. I did my part, I trained, I went home and I was there every day. I always arrived on time. I respected all the people who worked at the club. I have clear conscience".
For this 2022-23 season, the Brazilian's luck changed, as he was loaned to Girona, who currently play in the Spanish top tier and have an environment similar to that of Real Madrid. "It's a good start, I'm gaining confidence, gaining minutes. I'm very happy with this election for me and my family. I want to continue my path, whether it's here or another team, the important thing is to be happy, to be well be giving your best", Reinier confessed. At Dortmund he only appeared in 39 of 97 possible games, almost always as a substitute.
Asked about the situation of his countryman Vinicius Jr, Reinier admitted he himself hasn't suffered any racism and that everyone treated him "with great respect", but added: "It is unfortunate that this happens in the world today" due to criticism of Vini and his dancing celebrations. "I sent a message to Vini telling him that he could always count on me. But Vini is very strong. The Brazilians answer everything on the pitch. If you scored a goal, you have to celebrate it however you want".
Reinier is enjoying his time at Girona much better
Reinier knows that the competition at Real Madrid is strong and that the idea of succeeding there, seeing that others couldn't, is difficult, but he has faith for when he returns. At Girona he's appeared in five games this season, scoring a goal. With regards to Dortmund, he admits that the experience "changed his mindset": "Two years in Germany and I am another person, another mindset. Experience with great players, who are now my friends. They have helped me a lot since I got there. I did not speak English, I didn't speak German".
