SIX YEARS: Real Madrid lock up one of their young stars until 2028
The Merengue club is always looking ahead, and they've just made sure they won't lose one of their youngest stars
Real Madrid always have one eye looking ahead. While the Merengue club currently runs one of the best sporting projects in the world, they're always very keen to prepare for the future, and someone who's destined to have a big place in that future is Brazilian forward Rodrygo.
While it has been Vinicius Jr who's taken all the flashes last season with his improvement since first arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu, the former Santos man has been getting better as well. With Madrid investing heavily into their future with the renovation of Vinicius and Militao and the signing of the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni, it's only logical they'll want to lock up Rodrygo as well.
That's exactly what they've been up to, according to Spanish newspaper AS, who are reporting Rodrygo just signed a new deal that would take his stint at Los Blancos until 2028, adding a further three years to his former deal, which expired in 2025.
Rodrygo will also see himself rewarded with a wages update, to better correlate with his new role in the squad as Carlo Ancelotti's favourite super sub when matches become an uphill battle.
Any club looking to pry the Brazilian from Real Madrid will have it very difficult, as they've added a 1 billion euros release clause, which would make him the most expensive player more than five times over should it be triggered. It's worth remembering that Rodrygo joined the club in 2019 from Santos for 45 million euros. Last season he featured 49 times for Real Madrid, scoring 9 goals and providing 10 assists.
