Robben's EMOTIONAL message after Ribery's retirement
The Dutchman congratulated his long time friend and teammate on his great career
Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery were the terror of Bundesliga defences for year. The Bayern Munich pair scored and assisted themselves and their teammates constantly to put the Bavarian giants back on the path of league dominance that they had lost to Borussia Dortmund.
The Dutchman has been retired since July 2021 (after an attempted return to the sport with his hometown side FC Groningen), and now it was the Frenchman's time to announce he's hanging his boots, after a recurring knee injury made it unsafe for him to continue playing.
While each has been on their own paths since the end of their Bayern Munich days, Robben showed he didn't forget his friend, sending him a message on his retirement. "It has always been a great joy with you, on and off the pitch! You can be truly proud of all that you have achieved! It has been and always will be an honor to be part of Robbery. Now enjoy the time with your family and see you soon!", wrote the Dutchman on his Instagram, reminding the Robbery nickname the pair had, a portmanteau of thier surnames.
Together, Robben and Franck Ribery conquerered seven Bundesliga titles, four German Cups, four German Super Cups, a UEFA Champions League and a European Super Cup.
The Frenchman will continue to work in football, taking a role alongside head coach Davide Nicola at Salernitana in Serie A. However, Arjen Robben has revealed he isn't interested in persuing a career in coaching: "From time to time I train the team of my son, that's a lot of fun. But to say that one day I want to be a head coach at the highest level, I find that difficult", commented soon after retiring the Dutchman, "I see every day what stress there is, what kind of pressure. Do I really need that? I really do not know if I feel like it".
