SURPRISING: He shines with Argentina and may be in the sights of Mourinho
Rodrigo de Paul became one of the fan favourites for the Lionel Scaloni Argentina team and now he could be on the move
Rodrigo De Paul's promising start to life at a footballer had seemed to have gone off the rails after his move to Valencia didn't work out and he was back at youth club Racing.
A surprise move to Serie A side Udinese got him back on his feet, as De Paul became one of the best performers for the Italian side, and showed enough promise to earn a place with Lionel Scaloni's Argentina national team and he quickly became one of the fan favourites.
His form with his national team set up Rodrigo de Paul for a move to one of the top sides in Europe, and it was Atlético de Madrid that won the race. However, a year on and his career seems to have hit a roadblock once again. Closing on a tricky first year back in Spain, there are rumours of a move.
The word is that De Paul could be moving back to Italy. First, it was said to be Juventus who was testing the waters, but now a new suitor has come up. According to Italian journalist Raffaele Amato from calciomercato.it, it's none other than José Mourinho who wants the 28 year old to join him at Roma.
Despite De Paul having a contract until June 2026, it is said that Atlético Madrid would entertain any fee around the 40 million euros mark, which is not that far off from the 35 millions they paid for De Paul just a year ago. There is nothing solid yet, but it could be a return to Italy for De Paul to once again move his career forwards.
