SPECIAL ONES: The players Mourinho wants to take Roma to the next level
The Roma manager isn't celebrating any more, but planning for the coming season
Ever since they won their first ever official UEFA title by lifting the 2022 UEFA Conference League, it has been a whirlwind of rumours for AS Roma and their manager, José Mourinho. The Giallorossi finished 6th in Serie A, just seven points behind Juventus in fourth.
"I love being at Roma. I don't love it when I lose, and I lose more here than at other clubs, but the people love me and I have this great feeling of empathy with the people both inside and outside the club", said Mourinho about his time so far at the helm of the Italian capital side.
While the club are happy with the bit of silverware, it was no secret that the objective for the Portuguese was getting back into the Champions League. Therefore, Roma are expected to dive into the market to find the players that get them those points separeting them from the top European competition.
The first of the objectives would be Arsenal's Héctor Bellerin. The Spanish right back is coming from a great spell at loan back at his home country with Real Betis, and while Bellerín was hoping the North London club give him carte blanche to make the move permanent on a free, it's looking like the Gunners want a fee for him, something Betis can't afford. That's where Roma would swoop in and convince Bellerin that the Eternal City is the place to be.
Next up, Roma would be interested in bolstering their midfield with a couple of big names on a free. The first would be Nemanja Matic. The Serbian midfielder played under Mourinho at Chelsea and Manchester United and he has been given a free transfer by the Red Devils, meaning he could be a Roma player very soon.
Last but not least, former Real Madrid creative midfielder Isco. The 30-year-old former Malaga midfielder has been slowly falling out of favour at Real Madrid since moving to Los Blancos in 2013, and has finally been given a free transfer this season. While it's been reported that the Spaniard would prefer to remain in his homecountry, Mourinho is reported to have pushed for the player and would love to have him a Roma.
