HISTORIC: AS Roma win UEFA Europa Conference League title!
The Giallorossi endured the storm to win their first ever European title since 1961
AS Roma and Jose Mourinho have just made history. The Italian side won the first ever final of the UEFA Europa Conference League against Dutch side Feyenoord. With a single goal by Nicolò Zaniolo, the Giallorossi lifted the trophy, their first ever European title since 1961.
The side led by José Mourinho had gotten to an European final after 31 years, and fans had shown how big it was for them, as they took over the street of the Albanian capital of Tirana.
Roma took the lead early on, as with just 30 minutes gone in the first half, Zaniolo carried the ball into the box and slotted it in the bottom . Feyenoord made a huge effort trying to get back into the match, hitting twice the posts twice in the first half, but some excellent saves by Giallorossi goalie Rui Patricio and some back luck denied them.
In the second half, Roma decided to relinquish control of the ball and defend the result. Feyenoord struggled to hurt them again, and with a performance typical of a smart Mourinho side, the Italian side closed down the game to claim the title.
For the Portuguese manager, its his first title with AS Roma and his first since winning the Europa League with Manchester United. With this win, and having also won previously the Champions League with Inter and Porto, he becomes the first ever manager to win all three top European competitions .
