TIGHT NEGOTIATION: Inter initial offer for Lukaku rejected by Chelsea
The big Belgian looks set on a return to the Nerazzurri, but it will have to wait for now as Chelsea expects better terms
The love story between Romelu Lukaku and Inter Milan could be getting another chapter very soon. It all started when Big Rom told the English press that he hoped he could return to Inter soon, and his destiny seemed sealed since then.
Now, it's inching closer to completition. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Nerazzurri have submitted their first offer for the Belgian. As it was reported before, despite Lukaku's efforts to return to the club he felt most at home at, with a more than 50% wage reduction, the options for Inter to consider a full transfer simply did not exist. Therefore, the possibility of a loan started to come up.
However, Chelsea played over 110 million euros for Lukaku, and they aren't in the business of giving away valuable assets for free. Expecting a loan fee for the privilege of playing the most expensive player of all time, Chelsea needs some incentive for the deal to work. According to Romano, that incentive would came in the form of 5 million euros plus a 2 million add on.
It was deemed insufficient by the English club, but with Lukaku set on a return to Inter and his relationship with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel in tatters, it seems unlike the Blues will be able to resist for much longer. Inter are reported to improve their offer in the coming days.
