The Curious Case of Romelu Lukaku and the Search for Stardom
Big Rom has always been after the big lights, but has it ever worked for him?
They say happiness that which we find while we're busy making other plans. It may be an inspiring quote for some and not for others, but it certainly rings some truth in the case of Romelu Lukaku's career.
The big Belgian forward appears to have been always looking to write the big next chapter in his career, while finding the most joy in the side steps he has had to take along the way. His first Chelsea stint prove unfruitful and dissappointing, but he flourished when the Blues "discarded" him to Everton.

Then came his next big move, alledging that the Merseyside club wasn't ambitious enough and making a £75 million move to Manchester United. Once again, flaky form and dissappointment, as he was ridiculed over some inconsistencies in his game.
Feeling he was a scapegoat at the Red Devils, he moved to an arguably "lesser" league and team, being introduced as an Inter Milan player on August 2019. Yet again, he thrived, forming a deadly partnership with Lautaro Martinez and winning the Serie A in 2020-21.
And again, he chased the big lights. A move to Chelsea to bring him to the centre of the Premier League, to become a key piece in the last European champions' squad. It all went bad very quick, with Lukaku declaring as soon as December 2021 that he wished he could return to Inter "in the near future" after a clash with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
Now, it seems that yet another side step move in Lukaku's career will happen. This time, he's seeking it intentionally. According to Italian journalist Matteo Barzaghi there has been direct contact between Inter and Chelsea over the possibility of Lukaku moving back to Milan on a loan deal. It's something the big man has been clear on, he wants to wear the Nerazzurri shirt once more.

With his last Chelsea move Romelu Lukaku became the most expensive player of all time when considering cumulative transfer fees across a career, reaching of almost £285 million (or over 330 million euros). That number is bound to increase as Inter will have to pay a loan fee. Perhaps this time it will be the last time Big Rom changes clubs.
