Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United: The decline of a love relationship
The Portuguese will leave United in a bad way after so many years of glory
Cristiano Ronaldo-Manchester United relationship is probably in its worst stage, as the Portuguese want to leave the club as a result of the incident in last preseason match, where the number seven left the dressing room during the break after being replaced.
This was not taken in a good way by new manager Erik Ten Hag. After the match, the Dutchman told the media: "I certainly don't condone this. This is unacceptable. For everyone. We are a team and you have to stay until the end."
Since that 1-1 against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford everything changed and marked a breaking point. Ronaldo doesn't want to stay at United, and most of the fans want him to leave.
Red Devil`s supporters' love for Cristiano was huge. The striker amazed everyone when he arrived in 2003 from Sporting Lisboa, and fans asked for his return in every transfer market since he left to join Real Madrid in 2009 for a record fee of 94M Euros.
But once that arrival happened, it was not the same as the good old days. The Portuguese managed to score 18 goals in 30 Premier League games, but that was not enough.
The team finished in sixth place, 35 points behind rivals and champions Manchester City, and failed to reach Champions League spots, leading them to compete again in Europe's second level, Europa League.
Unfortunately, this is the end of one of the most beautiful relationships in football. After everything he won in England and every form of love demonstrated to him by the fans, Ronaldo is leaving United through the back door.
