The WORST news for the fans: Luis Suárez will be leaving his favourite club
The Uruguayan signed for childhood club Nacional, but he'll be moving after the championship ends
The writing was on the wall, but the Nacional fans had a tiny margin of hope that with the affection, the good results and life at home Luis Suárez would end up staying with the Uruguayan outfit after the 2022 Qatar World Cup. However, things were clear from the beginning and now it is official that Luis Suárez will be leaving Nacional.
The president of the club, José Fuentes, who was the architect of Suárez's return, explained: "When the championship is over and Luis Suárez will be leaving Nacional. I'm not going to create false expectations. Luis Suárez made a great effort to come to Nacional and, every time they ask me, I remind people of it so as not to generate expectations for the future. He will leave and he also said it more than once, that's how we had arranged it".
Fuentes', who spoke on the matter with football show Punto Penal on Uruguayan TV, added: "This was the agreement from the beginning and it will be so". After the Uruguayan championship ends, Suárez will be free again and will join the Uruguayan National Team to prepare for the World Cup.
After the tournament in Qatar, Suárez's future will be up in the air again because his future could be in the MLS or with a return to an European club. Upon arriving in Montevideo, Suárez had also been clear: "My dream was to come for these three months, fulfill that dream and that of my children that they see me playing in the Nacional shirt, but we cannot generate expectations that I am not going to fulfill. It's clear that it was until the World Cup and then I'm going to take the next step".
So far, Suárez has played ten games, scoring four goals and providing three assists. The Uruguayan championship has Nacional as the leader, along with River Plate, with the clash between them ending in 1-1. The tournament has six games left and Suárez will seek to win the Uruguayan title as a parting gift.
