Tottenham let him walk on FREE and now he could earn them 30 MILLION
One of the Spurs academy graduates has been shining elsewhere and he could end up coming through for them in the economic sense
Marcus Edwards and Sporting Lisbon shocked everyone. The 23 year old forward played the match of his life as the Portuguese giants hosted his former side Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League, which ended in an unbelievable win for Sporting, who scored two goals in the dying embers of the match to shock the English.

However, the North London side might still profit from Edwards. The creative forward actually came through the Tottenham academy, who he joined aged 8. Despite that, he only managed a single appearance for Spurs' first team, and was let go on a free in 2019. After three years, 96 appearances and 20 goals at Vitoria Guimaraes, he was sold to Sporting Lisbon for 7.5 million euros.
Upon leaving Tottenham, a 50% clause sell-on fee was added to his contract, and when the Lisbon giants signed him a deal was agreed to transfer that clause to his next contract (as opposed to cashing in on the deal).
Still, now that Edwards is shining with the Portuguese 2020-21 champions, clubs in Europe might be interested in triggering his 60 million euros release clause, which means Tottenham could pocket no less than 30 million (£26 million) if it's done.
Edwards could still come through for Tottenham, just not in the way he imagined
Since leaving Tottenham, Marcus Edwards has developed into a very complete forward, showing great dribbling skill with the ball at his feet, as well as an eye for a killer ball, which makes him lethal with time and space on the edge of the box. Since joining Sporting Lisbon, he's scored six and assisted six in 23 matches.
