Tottenham: Signings and idea to double-compete
Conte has an identifying and strong way of playing, but he needs signings.
Spurs have finished last Premier League season in fourth place, just three points behind third-placed Chelsea, but 22 below champions Manchester City. Nevertheless, the spot won last year means Conte's side is going to play Champions League football.
After an absence of two years from Europe's top competition that almost makes Harry Kane leave the club, Spurs are preparing to give a thought fight in the group stage and make it to the round of 16 as a minimum goal, but they have a problem: The shortness of their squad.
Tottenham need more players to compete in Premier and Champions League
This made Antonio Conte suffer in many ways: He just has four natural central midfielders while the manager uses two of them on the starting eleven, Bentancur and Hogjberg. This means, that if one of them is injured, they do not have another backup apart from youngster Olivier Skipp and Harry Winks.
The same thing happens with the central striker. The Italian manager can only count on Harry Kane and Heung Ming Son as the other offensive players he has are wingers such as Kulusevski and Lucas Moura.
Nevertheless, Spurs managed to reach an identifying way of playing with a 3-5-2 formation, having three center-backs that defend with one central midfielder while the other one, with two offensive wing-backs and the strikers, attacks in fast and direct transitions.
Conte is identified with a way of playing
Conte`s physical style gave results as the team scored 29 goals more than they conceded last season. Also, supporters feel idetinyfed with the players. But, to keep this type of football in both competitions this year, they need signings.
That's why the manager asked to bring a striker and a center-back. Richarlison and Lenglet are the names he wants, as the Brazilian can bring the speed in both central and wide areas of the pitch, while the Frenchman has a similar defending to both Romero and Davinson Sanchez: good ball control, pass, and physical game.
Bringing these two players will surely make Tottenham a stronger team with possibilities for success in England and Europe, as Antonio Conte hopes to repeat another good season with The Lilywhites.
