SHOCKER: Manchester United hijacks deal for one of Europe's top prospects
Another club had the deal done, but United swooped in at the last minute to take this young player
Negotiatons during the transfer window are usually slow and troublesome, with clubs and agents taking long weeks before coming to an agreement on the smallest of details. Other times, however, they move at the speed of lighting and that seems to be the case with Manchester United's deal for Tyrell Malacia.
Malacia is one of Europe's most interesting prospects. The 22 year old Dutchman currently plays for youth side Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. A pacey and smart left back, Malacia is known for his dribbling ability and passing skills. All of that had made Ligue 1 side Lyon, who often have a good eye for youngers, offer 13 million euros for the player. Everything was agreed upon and the deal was going smoothly, until now...
That's because, smelling an opportunity, Manchester United have swooped in at the last minute and made a better offer, reportedly of 15 million euros plus another two on addons, to take Malacia to Old Trafford.
According to David Ornstein from The Athletic, the deal between the clubs is agreed, and now all that remains is for the Red Devils to negotiate with the player. Should Malacia reach an agreement with United, he will become their player, although the choice is his. Frank Arnesen, Feyenoord's director, told Rotterdam news outlet 1908NL: "The agreement with Man United is there. We are now waiting for Tyrell. If Malacia says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent".
Tyrell Malacia played 32 matches for Feyernoord last season, scoring a goal and providing 4 assists from defence, as well as featuring for The Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League.
