The LATE MOVE linking West Ham with a BRAZILIAN STAR
The Hammers have had a torrid start to the season, and they are looking for the right man to fix their issues
Clubs have long months to plan their next season squads and do the moves they need to do early in the transfer market. Why, then, most moves tend to happen in the rush hour of the last days (or hours) of the market, we'll never now, but that's how it is, and Premier League clubs are making full use of this moment. With Newcastle United set to close down a record signing soon, West Ham is another English club set to make good business late on.
The Hammers have had a shocking start to the season, losing all three of their initial matches, including a 1-0 defeat against recently promoted Nottingham Forest. Their way to fix it? A late move for Olympique de Lyon's Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paquetá.
According to several sources in the UK, the side led by David Moyes has launched a £34 million bid for the soon-to-be 25 year old Brazil international. In the wake of Lyon's poor 2021/22 season, which saw them completely miss out on playing in Europe as the team finished in eighth place in Ligue 1, Paquetá has been reportedly open to a transfer.
Thus, the Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move away from Ligue 1 all summer long, with Arsenal looking like the most probably destination, while also close to Tottenham, Newcastle United and even Manchester City.
However, it's looking like it will be a move to the London Stadium rather than the Emirates, with the East London side working extra time to get the deal over the line. There are still no solid figures on personal terms, but negotiations are reported to be advancing quickly.
When asked on the matter, West Ham boss David Moyes steered away of a clear answer, jokingly claiming "I've lost count of how many players we've bid for. We've bid for a lot. If I told you who, you would burst out laughing". Lucas Paquetá closed the campaign with 11 goals and 7 assists in 44 games for the French side.
